According to the word going around in Mexico, undefeated bantamweight Abner Mares is going to reunite with ex-trainer Nacho Beristain to prepare for his fall bout with IBO champion Vic Darchinyan. Mares and Beristain had a nasty split in May of last year. The trainer broke ties with Mares after the young fighter signed a contract with manager Frank Espinoza.
It's believed that Beristain, then trainer of Rafael Marquez, had issue with the move because Espinoza is the manager of Marquez's rival Israel Vazquez. Marquez has since replaced Nacho with Daniel Zaragoza.
Darchinyan vs. Mares is going to be part of Showtime's planned four-man elimination tournament in the bantamweight division. It's being said that Mares will train with Nacho at the Romanza Gym in Iztacalco, Mexico.
