Former three division world champion Abner Mares (26-1-1, 14KOs) has no fear of challenging WBA/WBO super bantamweight king Guillermo Rigondeaux (13-0, 8KOs).

In August, Mares suffered his first career defeat to Jhonny Gonzalez. The fight was over quickly, with Gonzalez catching Mares and stopping him in the very first round to capture the WBC featherweight crown.

A rematch between Mares and Gonzalez is scheduled for February 15th at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. If he gets revenge on Gonzalez, Mares would be more than happy to get in the ring with Rigondeaux.

"God willing we'll beat Jhonny Gonzalez and then we want Leo Santa Cruz or Guillermo Rigondeaux. Nobody mentions [Rigondeaux] because everyone is afraid of him, but I'm not. I would fight him. I know he is slippery, a complicated fighter, but nobody is invincible," Mares said.

"I'm willing to go down to bantamweight. He says he does not want to move up in weight, but I'm not afraid. I'm among one of the few who would face him, but others turn their backs and go the other way because of his style, but I would look for a way to win."

But the first thing Mares has to do is beat Gonzalez, and he does not underestimate the challenge.

"As the fight plays out, [Gonzalez] will continue to have a strong punch and he will continue to be a difficult opponent and dangerous. I am a fighter who likes to trade punches, so this is going to be an interesting fight," Mares said.
