Lightweight contender Abner Cotto (16-0, 7 KOs) is not ruling out the possibility of moving down to the super featherweight division. This past Saturday night in Caguas, Cotto battered Sergio 'El Serenito' Perez (27-14, 18 KOs) over seven rounds.
For the contest with Perez, Cotto said he had planned to test the waters at 130-pounds, but the opponent refused to meet him at the weight so they increased the contracted limit.
"What we had in mind was to make 130 pounds. But the opponent said no, so it was made at 135. I weighed in at 133, but I felt super strong. I went to breakfast before the weigh-in and still made 133," Cotto told Jose Sanchez.
Cotto is looking to compete for a major championship in 2013. If he stays at 135, he has mentioned IBF champion Miguel Vazquez of Mexico as a possible opponent.
"Next year I want to fight for a world title," Cotto said after his win on Saturday.
