Abel Sanchez, trainer of WBA/IBO/WBC/IBF middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin and several other fighters, would like to see Terence Crawford move up in weight to battle with WBC welterweight champion Danny Garcia.
Crawford (29-0, 20KOs) put on a show this past Saturday night, when he dominated Viktor Postol for a twelve round unanimous decision to unify the WBC/WBO junior welterweight titles at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Garcia (32-0, 18KOs) moved up to the welterweight division in January and captured the WBC title with a decision over Robert Guerrero.
Garcia's next fight has not been finalized but there is speculation that he will fight former champion Andre Berto. Crawford is expected to return in the fall as well, and he is a frontrunner to face eight division world champion Manny Pacquiao on November 5th at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.
Sanchez is not as interested in watching Crawford-Pacquiao. He would rather see Crawford fight Garcia.
"I'd rather see Terence Crawford vs. Danny Garcia. It's two fresh guys, two talented guys. Two guys who can crack and they would bring out the best in each other," Sanchez said.
He says Pacquiao is a bigger fight for Crawford, but it's not exactly a tougher fight than Garcia would be.
"Pacquiao is] a bigger fight, I don't think it's necessarily a tougher fight. Manny has taken a lot of time off. He won't be as fresh as Danny Garcia, because Danny is younger and it's a better fight," Sanchez said.
