Elite trainer Abel Sanchez has high expectations for up and coming 140 pound prospect Alex "El Cholo" Saucedo (22-0). The 22-year-old will take a step up in class on November 4th when he faces Raymond Serrano (21-3) at the Treasure Island Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. The fight will open up the UniMas broadcast that is headlined by Andy Vences (16-0) facing Casey Ramos (23-0).
Sanchez, who also trains WBA/WBC/IBF/IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin and several others, like what he has seen so far from Saucedo.
"He's been with me about three weeks now. He is a hard worker and even though he is 22-0 he still wants to work hard. A lot of guys when they get to that point they are more selective of how they work. This kid came to camp understanding there is a system here and he is willing to do everything we ask of him and so far so good," Sanchez stated.
"He has a great attitude and that is important because it is easy for us coaches to mold and add to what they already have. He is coming in as a very good fighter and now it is our turn to polish him and make him into a world champion."
With that said, one would think that a trainer would like to get a tune up fight or two under their belt before taking a step up from their fighter's previous level of competition. Sanchez said that Saucedo is ready for this fight now and that he expects him to shine under the bright Las Vegas lights next month.
"I am not one that picks and chooses. If he comes to camp and I would have seen something abnormal them I would have said he wouldn't be ready but he's 22-0 and he should be ready for everyone out here at his level. He's working hard and that is a good test for him against Serrano. Serrano has a couple losses but it's still a good fight. He's a good boxer and will test some of the things we are working on. We are not going to change too much. All we have to do is add a couple new wrinkles. The one thing that we emphasize coming out of The Summit is that we need to knock people out. We need to hurt people so hopefully that doesn't influence him too much to where he doesn't do his job in the ring but we will see fight night," Sanchez told BoxingScene.com.
