According to The Star-Ledger, the New Jersey State Athletic Control Board has named Aaron Davis of Kansas as the commissioner to oversee boxing and mixed martial arts in state. Davis, currently the boxing commissioner in Kansas, replaces Larry Hazzard who was fired last November.

Sylvester Cuyler was the acting commissioner after Hazzard was fired. It was no secret that Cuyler wanted to land the position on a permanent basis. Hazzard filed a lawsuit against New Jersey in January, alleging that he was fired for exposing violations committed by Cuyler.

Davis seems to have been picked on the basis of his track record for greatly increasing the number of boxing, mixed martial arts and pro wrestling events in the state of Kansas. There are high hopes that Davis will lure more boxing events, small and large, to the state of New Jersey.
