Jose Ramirez and Viktor Postol have remained disciplined through the holiday season.

The pair of junior welterweights were both in compliance of the 30-day weight safety check as imposed by the World Boxing Council (WBC) ahead of their February 2 title fight at Mission Hills Haikou in Haikou, China. Participants for any WBC-sanctioned fight cannot weigh heavier than 10% above the contracted limit 30 days out from fight night. In this case, both boxers were required to weigh 154 pounds or less for their 140-pound title fight.

Ramirez (25-0, 17KOs) checked in just under the mark at 153 pounds. Ukraine’s Postol came in at a fit and trim 146.2 pounds, which is actually below the 14-day weight check where both will be required to weigh no more than 5% above the limit or 147 pounds.

The pre-Super Bowl ESPN-televised bout places Ramirez in the fourth defense of the WBC title he claimed in a 12-round decision over Amir Imam in March 2018. The Avenal, California native is coming off of the best win of his career, a 6th round stoppage of previously unbeaten World Boxing Organization (WBO) titlist Maurice Hooker in their title unification clash last July.

With the two belts also comes a pair of mandatory challenges to honor. First in line is Postol (31-2, 12KOs), a former WBC titlist who has won three of his last four starts since conceding his belt to Terence Crawford in their July 2016 unification bout. The lone loss since then came at the hands of Josh Taylor whom has since emerged as a unified titlist.

Postol made his way back to the title stage after soundly outpointing France’s Mohamed Mimoune in their title eliminator last April.

Ramirez and Postol will next submit to 14-day weight checks at or around January 19th where they must weigh no more than 5% above the 140-pound limit. From there will come a seven-day weight, which carries a 3% allowance above the contracted limit, rounded up to 145 pounds.
