The August 23 super featherweight title fight between Argenis Mendez and Arash Usmanee is on the move. The bout was originally targeted to take place in Las Vegas as a potential independent pay-per-view, It will now be staged at the Turning Stone Casino in Verona, New York, serving as a revised season-finale on ESPN2 Friday Night Fights. News of the move first broke on ESPN.com, suggesting a leak from an inside source considering that the participants weren’t even aware of the confirmed change in locations until reading about it online.

On Friday, June 14, Vito Mielnicki of GH3 Promotions and Greg Cohen of Greg Cohen Promotions (CGP), in association with First Round Promotions, will proudly present an exciting night of world-class professional boxing, live from the Richard J. Codey Arena at South Mountain in West Orange, New Jersey and broadcast worldwide on ESPN Friday Night Fights. In the 10-round main event, IBF #14-rated featherweight Arash Usmanee (20-1, 10 KOs) of Montreal, Canada (via Afghanistan) will face once-beaten contender Art "Lionheart" Hovhannisyan (15-1-2, 8 KOs) of Glendale, California (via Armenia).

Greg Cohen Promotions is proud to announce the signing of Afghani-Canadian super featherweight contender Arash Usmanee (20-1, 10 KOs) to a promotional contract. 31-year-old Usmanee, rated #14 by the IBF, has already won the NABA and WBC Continental Americas Championships as a professional. As an amateur he was a five-time National Canadian Champion.

Leon Margules, co-promoter of now IBF #2 super featherweight contender Rances "Kid Blast" Barthelemy (18-0, 11 KOs) says he feels the level of controversy after Barthelemy's close, but deserved, 12-round unanimous (115-113, 116-112, 116-112) decision over Arash Usmanee on Friday night at Stage 305 in the Magic City Casino in Miami, is both surprising and unfounded.

Usmanee outlanded Barthelemy in power shots in eight of twelve rounds. Usmanee threw 264 more total punches and 241 more power shots. Usmanee took Barthelemy out of his game. Bart landed 25 jabs in rounds one and two, then just 24 the rest of the fight!

30-year old Afghan Arash Usmanee (20-1, 10 KO) of Montreal, Quebec, Canada did more than enough to take the undefeated mark and sanctioning body rating of 26-year old Cuban Rances Barthelemy (18-0, 11 KO) of Miami, Florida, on Friday night at the Magic City Casino in Miami, Florida. The judges decided otherwise, giving Barthelemy unanimous decision after twelve rounds and giving fight fans a reminder that while it may be a new year, it’s still the same old sport.

The first stateside televised fight card of 2013 comes with drama at the scales. Unbeaten super welterweight prospect Jonathan Gonzalez once again finds himself in the middle of a weigh-in controversy, only this time he plays the victim. Gonzalez, who was nine pounds over the limit for his HBO-televised 10-round draw with Sergei Dzinziruk last September, came in under the contracted limit – 152.75 lb - for his ESPN2 co-feature bout on Friday evening. His opponent wasn’t quite as cooperative; Derek Ennis came in at 161 lb, seven pounds above the super welterweight limit.

Sherman Oaks, Calif. - Undefeated Super Middleweight Brandon Gonzales, 28, is coming off a dominant victory by unanimous decision over Elie Augustama in which he battled through a substantial gash over his left eye that severely hindered his vision for the last few rounds of the fight. "I learned about patience and sticking to the game plan and knowing that I can fight through adversity if necessary," Gonzales said of his bloody cut. "It showed I could carry out a fight regardless of the circumstances."

Rances Barthelemy - I want to thank everyone for this fight, the casino, my management, my promoters and trainer. I am renewed with this camp. All these changes are for the best. You will see a different fighter than before on Friday night. I have trained very hard and have gone to Big Bear, California, to spar. I am ready for the bell to ring. I want to thank my opponent, Arash, for accepting this fight in front of his Cuban fans.
