On Tuesday it was revealed that WBC super lightweight champion Jose Ramirez (22-0) will return to the ring on September 14th against Antonio Orozco (27-0) in Fresno in an ESPN televised main event.
Four days after Jose Ramirez’s last opponent couldn’t make weight, his handlers have secured another challenger who has repeatedly struggled to make the 140-pound limit. According to a Yahoo! Trainer Manuel Robles - who works with the likes of WBO featherweight titlist Oscar Valdez and WBO super bantamweight belt-holder Jessie Magdaleno - has added another boxer to his stable, junior welterweight contender, Antonio Orozco. Orozco (26-0, 17 KO's) was scheduled to face Roberto Ortiz on September 16th at the Forum in Inglewood, California, as the opening bout on HBO but never made it to the weigh-in as he was having issues making the 140-pound limit.
Luke Campbell was noticeably taller than Jorge Linares when they weighed in Friday for their WBA world lightweight title fight. It’s one of the few advantages the British contender appears to have over the heavily favored Linares entering their 12-round championship match Saturday night in Inglewood, California. The 32-year-old Linares (42-3, 27 KOs), a native of Venezuela, weighed in well below the lightweight limit of 135 pounds when he got on the California State Athletic Commission’s scale at 134.2 pounds in Los Angeles. The 29-year-old Campbell (17-1, 14 KOs), of Hessle, England, weighed 134.8 pounds.
