Esther Lin/Most Valuable PromotionsA deal is close for Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury to finally meet on November 20 with New York’s Madison Square Garden still the likeliest venue.
The heavyweight rivals have been linked for the best part of the last decade, but though it was reported by the Daily Mail that all parties were finally in agreement, Joshua's promoter Eddie Hearn insists the deal is not quite done yet.
Joshua initially signed a contract that stipulated that the fight must happen in the UK. Fury's contract, however, did not.
"We are in constant communication with Turki [Alalshikh] and SELA but as of yet there is no agreement to any variation within the contract," the Matchroom boss said Tuesday in reaction to reports that the fight was done and would be staged in America. Hearn has repeatedly stated that both he and Joshua want the fight in the UK but all other parties have agreed on New York. A new contract will need to be agreed by Team Joshua before it is officially confirmed.
“I've got some big news that's going to be dropped very, very soon,” Fury had said earlier in the day. “All is good in the hood, big fight on the horizon. It's the one you've all been waiting for. About to be announced imminently. Stay tuned.”
BoxingScene understands that a deal is close and is likely to be formally announced in the coming week.
