Anthony Crolla: record, next fight and profile →
Veteran trainer Joe Gallagher is confident that former world champion Anthony Crolla will not disgrace himself when he steps in the ring with WBA, WBO Vasiliy Lomachenko. This Friday night, at Staples Center in Los Angeles, Crolla attempt to pull off one of the biggest upsets in the history of the sport.
Anthony Crolla clearly wasn’t the opponent Bob Arum had in mind for Vasiliy Lomachenko’s next fight. Lomachenko’s promoter had designs on matching the WBA “super” lightweight champion against IBF champ Richard Commey in a 135-pound title unification fight. When Commey suffered a hand injury during his second-round knockout of Isa Chaniev on February 2, a doctor prescribed Commey two months of physical therapy and rest.
Anthony Crolla is not planning to go down without a serious fight when he faces WBA, WBO lightweight world champion Vasyl Lomachenko at the Staples Center on April 12th in Los Angeles, California. Crolla is, to some, a 100-1 underdog in the bout - despite that he's a former world champion with a lot of experience.

Whatever you might think about Anthony Crolla’s chances next week, he isn’t about to apologize for his mandated shot at Vasiliy Lomachenko. The former WBA world lightweight champion is certain he has “earned” this opportunity to upset the uniquely skilled Ukrainian southpaw. That said, numerous odds-makers have installed Lomachenko (12-1, 9 KOs) as a 100-1 favorite in a 12-round, 135-pound title fight ESPN will televise April 12 from Staples Center in Los Angeles.
Rising lightweight contender Teofimo Lopez (12-0) is currently in the final stages of his training camp for his April 20th showdown against Edis Tatli (31-2). The fight takes place on the Terence Crawford-Amir Khan pay-per-view undercard in New York at Madison Square Garden. ESPN will distribute the event.
By Keith Idec - Seven nights from now, Vasiliy Lomachenko is scheduled to defend his WBA “super” world lightweight title against Anthony Crolla. You haven’t heard or read a whole lot about it just yet because, frankly, calling Crolla a legitimate threat to Lomachenko’s lightweight championship reign isn’t a narrative ev...
