British Lightweight Champion Anthony Crolla says that he will scupper Willie Limond's plans of a history-making all-Scottish world title showdown against Ricky Burns.

Glasgow's Willie Limond is targeting a history-making world title showdown against Ricky Burns. Burns became Scotland's first two-weight world champion in nearly twenty years when he beat Australian great Michael Katsidis to capture the Interim WBO World title at Wembley Arena on Saturday night. Limond takes on British Lightweight Champion Anthony Crolla on Friday 25th November at the Ravenscraig Centre in Motherwell, live on BoxNation (Sky Platform Ch. 456), but has an eye on facing Burns after. It would be the first time two Scottish fighters have fought for a world title. "I was really happy to see Burns beat Katsidis and I thought he put on a great performance to beat one of the world's top lightweights," said Limond.

Anthony Crolla and Willie Limond both admit they would prefer to avoid fighting one another later this month but they will put friendship aside for the sake of the British lightweight title.

It’s not on the level of a once-rumored showdown with the legendary Erik Morales, but 24-year old Anthony Crolla now has a step up in competition and yet another road trip in his immediate future. On the heels of his U.S. debut, the Manchester-based contender will once again concede home field advantage when he faces Willie Limond for their super lightweight showdown on November 25 at the Ravenscraig Sports Centre in Motherswell, Scotland. The 12-round bout will be contested for Crolla’s British lightweight title.

As previously reported on BoxingScene.com, WBC light-welterweight titlist Erik Morales could still offer Manchester’s Anthony Crolla a shock opportunity to meet the Mexican legend in the ring. Crolla had hoped to tackle Morales on the undercard of Floyd Mayweather’s win over Victor Ortiz only to see the bout disappear from view. Now, though, Erik’s father, Jose, has confirmed that the Brit could still be in the reckoning should ‘El Terrible’ seal a December date in his home country of Mexico.

According to Jose Morales, father and trainer of WBC junior welterweight champion Erik Morales, British boxer Anthony Crolla is one of boxers being considering for a planned return in the month of December. Morales plans to return in December in Mexico, with Tijuana being the frontrunner city. Morales and Crolla were scheduled to fight each other on September 17, as part of the Floyd Mayweather-Victor Ortiz undercard in Las Vegas, but the boxers were shuffled apart into separate fights.

Promoter Frank Warren has won the purse bids for the British lightweight championship between the champion Anthony Crolla and challenger Willie Limond. Warren beat Crolla's promoter Ricky Hatton at the bids held at the British Boxing Board of Control's offices in Cardiff. A date and venue will be announced in the next few days and the fight will be televised on BoxNation (Sky Platform Channel 456).

The new boxing season is finally upon us and we can finally begin to talk about matters inside rather than outside the ring. Boxing politics can – occasionally – be interesting but none of us became fans of the sport because we were interested in the latest TV deals or fascinated by a boxer moving to a different promoter. We all fell in love with the sport because of the fights and the fighters.

ANTHONY CROLLA will achieve a lifetime ambition when he boxes at the MGM Grand Garden, Las Vegas on Saturday night (Sept 17). Manchester’s British lightweight champion boxes a non-title eight rounder against Mexican Juan Montiel on the Victor Ortiz-Floyd Mayweather Jr undercard. The Hatton Promotions star who had been slated to fight Mexican legend Erik Morales on the bill said: “I was devastated when that fight fell through, but these things happen.

One thing is for sure, Erik Morales will still fight on September 17th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, as part of the pay-per-view undercard to the Floyd Mayweather-Victor Ortiz welterweight collision. As reported this morning on BoxingScene.com, Morales' opponent Lucas Matthysse withdrew with an illness. Morales and Matthysse were going to fight for the vacant WBC junior welterweight title.
