Croatian middleweight Ante Bilic, 27-2 and the reigning WBO European middleweight champion, have been arrested in Split after allegedly shooting and killing a person in what is reported as a gang related crime.

Bilic then tried to escape but was caught by the police and is currently in custody.

Ante Bilic turned pro in 2002 and was first signed by Aura Sports in Germany and then joined Spotlight Boxing in Hamburg and his career took off and he won the WBC Youth title in 2004.

However, after losing to then WBO and IBF I/C jr middle champ Lukas Konecny - Bilic´s contract with Spotlight ended and he then lost an eliminator in 2007 for a contract with Arena against the talented Russian Sergey Sorokin. Recently, Bilic was with EC Box Promotion and won the WBO Euro title in his latest fight in February of this year. Whether or not we will ever see Bilic again in a boxing ring remains to be seen.
