Angel ‘Tito’ Acosta is set for the third defense of his junior flyweight title as he takes on former champ Ganigan Lopez. WBO Light Flyweight World Champion Angel "Tito" Acosta (19-1, 19 KOs) of San Juan, Puerto Rico hosted a media workout today at Legendz Boxing in Norwalk, Calif. ahead of his battle against Ganigan Lopez (35-8, 19 KOs) of Mexico City, Mexico in the co-main event of Garcia vs. Lopez on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, Calif. and which will be streamed live on DAZN.
Shortly after tearing his last title defense, Angel Acosta hoped to end 2018 with an undercard appearance on Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez’s DAZN and Madison Square Garden debut last December. That opportunity never came about, but the knockout artist from Puerto Rico will gladly settle for a consolation prize—his own headlining act on the new streaming platform.
World Boxing Organization (WBO) junior flyweight champion Angel "Tito" Acosta will return to the ring on March 16 against an opponent yet to be determined, after Japan's Ryuji Hara withdrew from their planned bout due to an injury. Hara was the WBO's mandatory opponent to face the Puerto Rican for the 108-pound belt.
Angel 'Tito' Acosta will have to wait longer than he anticipated to find out the identity of his next opponent. The 108-pound world champion of the World Boxing Organization had the impression that he would risk the belt against Ryuji Hara, but the Japanese boxer notified the members of the Championship Committee of the WBO that he would not be physically ready for the date of February 2.
