At the University Arena in Limerick, Ireland, middleweight contender Andy Lee (21-1 14KOs) pulled off a second round stoppage over Mamadou Thiam (46-8, 43KOs). A very strange ending. After dominating the first round with his size and strength, Thiam was unable to stand up to come out for the second round and told his corner that his back got injured and he couldn't continue. During the first there was a knockdown when Lee landed a glancing blow but it was waved off as a slip. Thiam may have injured his back during that fall. Trainer Emanuel Steward was in Lee's corner.
On the undercard, heavyweight Mike Perez (10-0, 8 KOs) won two fights in one night. He crushed Edgar Kalners (21-23) in less then a minute of the first round, and then later on he busted up Tomas Mrazek (4-28-5) in three rounds.
