Naoya Inoue and TJ Doheny both made weight ahead of tomorrow’s fight for Inoue’s undisputed junior featherweight crown. They cordially shook hands after the customary staredown and will next meet in the ring at the Ariake Arena in Kotu-Ku.

The undercard is set for Naoya Inoue’s undisputed junior featherweight title defense against TJ Doheny on September 3 at the Ariake Arena in Tokyo. Four-division champion Inoue, 27-0 (24 KOs), is one of the leading fighters in the world while Australia-based Irishman Doheny is 26-4 (20 KOs) and popular in Japan after several underdog victories in the Land of the Rising Sun.

Shohjahon Ergashev remains first in line to compete in an IBF title eliminator. The process to secure an opponent for such a fight, however, remains an arduous task. BoxingScene.com has confirmed that the IBF has sent an invitation to Australia’s Stevie Spark to enter talks for a final elimination bout versus Uzbekistan’s Ergashev. Spark—who is signed to Matchroom Boxing—will have three days from the time of receipt last Friday to accept, at which point the sanctioning body will order a negotiation period for the fight to determine the mandatory challenger for recently crowned IBF junior welterweight titlist Subriel Matias.

Andy Hiraoka could’ve taken out Shun Akaiwa earlier Tuesday, but he eventually got the job done. The unbeaten junior welterweight contender stopped Akaiwa in the fifth round of their fight on the Naoya Inoue-Nonito Donaire undercard at Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan.

Andy Hiraoka thoroughly enjoyed his second straight trip to Las Vegas. The promising junior welterweight prospect maintained his pristine record, scoring a 4th round stoppage of Paterson, New Jersey’s Rickey Edwards. Hiraoka scored three knockdowns before the fight was stopped at 2:20 of round four in their ESPN+ televised opener Saturday evening at The Bubble at MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
