Stevenson-Fonfara Looms For April 12 in Montreal?

According to reports in Poland and Canada, negotiations are heating up for an HBO televised fight between WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson (23-1, 20 KOs) and top Polish contender Andrzej Fonfara (25-2, 15 KOs). A tentative date of April 12 in Montreal is being kicked around for the fight. Fonfara is reportedly being pursued by both Stevenson and WBO champion Sergei Kovalev (23-0-1, 21 KOs), but the Polish boxer appears to be leaning in the direction of Stevenson.

WBC Cruiserweight Champion Krzysztof “Diablo” Wlodarczyk (49-2-1, 35 KOs) defeated Giacobbe “Gabibbo” Fragomeni (31-4-2, 12 KOs) by a seventh-round TKO on Friday night at the UIC Pavilion in of Chicago, IL. The bout was the main event of “World Championship Boxing: Wlodarczyk vs. Fragomeni 3″ presented by Ulrich Knockout Promotions, Warriors Boxing and 8 Count Productions. The 32-year-old Wlodarczyk controlled the action from the start as he used his long reach to keep his 44-year-old opponent off balance. Despite being out-gunned, Fragomeni continued to stalk the champion and landed a few effective punches of his own.

32-year old WBC Cruiserweight titlist Krzysztof Wlodarczyk (49-2-1, 35 KO) of Piaseczno, Poland, On Friday night at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago, Illinois, made his sixth successful title defense when the ring doctor stopped the bout prior to the start of the seventh round due to a cut. 44-year old challenger Giacobbe Fragomeni (31-4-2, 12 KO) of Milan, Lombardia, Italy, was dropped in the fourth and well behind in the fight.

The final press conference took place for Friday's big doubleheader at the UIC Center in Chicago. In the main event, a trilogy match with cruiserweight champion Krzysztof “Diablo” Włodarczyk (48-2, 34 KOs) defending his crown against mandatory challenger Giacobbe Fragomeni (31-3, 12 KOs). In the co-feature, rising Polish light heavyweight contender Andrzej Fonfara (24-2, 14 KOs), who is close to a shot at the IBF crown held by Bernard Hopkins, will face Colombian Samuel Miller (26-7, 23 KOs).

Roughly 30 minutes after the conclusion of their first fight replayed on ESPN2 airwaves, Artur Szpilka and Mike Mollo offered a virtual replica in their thrilling rematch Friday evening at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago. Szpilka once again climbed off the canvas to knockout Mollo, this time ending it one round sooner as a left hook forced the stoppage at 1:41 of round five.

The weights are in "The Big Fight 2" - televised live as part of ESPN's Friday Night Fights from the U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago, IL. Photos by Team Fonara & Danny Krzywiec. As part of the card, a heavyweight shootout between Artur Szpilka and Mike Mollo. In their first fight earlier this year, Szpilka was down in rounds one and four, before coming back to knock Mollo out cold in the sixth. The two fighters got very tense at their weigh-in face off. Both fighters have predicted knockout victories in the rematch.

Former world champion Gabriel Campillo spoke to BoxingScene from Madrid before leaving early Sunday morning for Chicago. Campillo squares off with Poland´s Andrzej Fonfara in an IBF eliminator which takes place at US Cellular Field, live on ESPN Friday Night Fights. “Without going over the top I´m feeling as good as ever. We´ll see on fight night how things go but I really feel great about this fight. I just have two kilos to lose this week. “Last time [against Sergey Kovalev], I arrived the day before the weigh-in. A whole set of circumstances meant it was almost impossible to come out victorious but this time things are a lot better.
