Both boxers made weight for their anticipated super featherweight title fight rematch, which takes place Friday evening live on DAZN from Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, Calif. Cancio weighed in right at the 130-pound divisional limit for the first defense of the title, while former champ Machado weighed in at 129.8 pounds.
By Cliff Rold - 2019 has had a healthy share of feel-good stories. Andrew Cancio was overlooked by most in the industry—and possibly even his opponent in the ring—ahead of his first fight with Alberto Machado earlier this year. He certainly doesn’t want to make that mistake ahead of their rematch, but also has designs on further proving his worth atop the super featherweight division.
From the moment he suffered his first defeat—losing his super featherweight title—Alberto Machado didn’t want to entertain any fight other than a rematch with Andrew Cancio. His team didn’t take as much issue with the pursuit as with the weight at which it would take place.

The 130-pound title fight rematch between Andrew Cancio and Alberto Machado is on the move—sort of. Plans for their sequel remain on course, save for a two-week delay as their DAZN headliner will now take place on June 21. The change from the originally planned June 8 date was made to accommodate the DAZN arrival of former middleweight titlist Gennady “GGG” Golovkin, whose platform debut will come in a 164-pound catchweight bout versus Canada's Steve Rolls at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Billel Dib continued on his march towards a world title opportunity, as he produced a career-best performance against the tough Rey Juntilla, stopping the game Juntilla in round 8 in a fight that was dominated by the Australian Super Featherweight standout.
Alberto ‘Explosivo’ Machado is not only eager to avenge his lone career defeat, but is willing to return to the scene of the crime in order to accomplish the feat. Talks remain ongoing for the former 130-pound titlist from Puerto Rico to run it back with his conqueror, newly crowned title claimant Andrew Cancio. The rematch—should it happen—will take place June 8 at Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, Calif., where Cancio rose from the canvas to stop a weight-drained Machado in four rounds this past February.
