Andre Ward: record, next fight and profile →
John David Jackson, the trainer for Sergey Kovalev (30-1-1, 26KOs), is still very confident his boxing defeated Andre Ward (31-0, 15KOs) by a margin of 8 rounds to 4 last month at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
It's official. The brightest young star in boxing is turning pro, under the guidance of the managerial team of J. Prince, Andre Ward and Josh Dubin.
Oscar De La Hoya has quite a different perspective on the Sergey Kovalev-Bernard Hopkins fight than most people who watched it. Kovalev, then undefeated, dominated a 49-year-old Hopkins during their 12-round light heavyweight championship unification fight two years ago in Atlantic City. Hopkins, whose chin has been one of his greatest strengths throughout his Hall-of-Fame career, suffered a first-round knockdown against Kovalev, who won their bout by huge margins on all three scorecards at Boardwalk Hall (120-106, 120-107, 120-107).
Depending on your viewpoint, the live gate for the recent unified light heavyweight title fight between Andre Ward and Sergey Kovalev performed reasonably well for two boxers in their first major Pay-Per-View event, or only further exposed their lack of commercial market appeal.
Sergey Kovalev continued Sunday night to question Andre Ward’s win against him last month. The former light heavyweight champion posted on Twitter that “Son of judges” was surprised of design! It’s very funny.
Former four division world champion Juan Manuel Marquez felt Andre Ward's boxing skills, conditioning and ability to adjust played big factors in last month's fight with Sergey Kovalev at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
One of the main adjustments John David Jackson wants to make before Sergey Kovalev fights Andre Ward a second time is to get Kovalev in better condition. Kovalev’s trainer thought his fighter was in very good shape for their November 19 fight in Las Vegas. He acknowledged Ward was better conditioned, however, and that it made a difference late in a 12-round light heavyweight title fight Ward won by unanimous decision at T-Mobile Arena.
Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach is not convinced that a rematch will happen between light heavyweights Andre Ward and Sergey Kovalev. Last month at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Ward (31-0, 15KOs) survived a knockdown in the second round to win a close twelve round unanimous decision over Kovalev (30-1-1, 26KOs) to capture the WBA, IBF, WBO world titles.
Sergey Kovalev’s trainer senses Andre Ward doesn’t really want to fight Kovalev again. Ward is contractually bound to an immediate rematch of a November 19 bout Ward won by unanimous decision at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. After tasting Kovalev’s power, John David Jackson just doesn’t think the 2004 Olympic gold medalist will want to risk his unblemished professional record against the hard-hitting Kovalev a second time.
WBA, IBF, WBO light heavyweight world champion Andre Ward (31-0, 15KOs) has fired back at the post-fight complaints of Sergey Kovalev (30-1, 26KOs). They collided two weeks ago at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, with Ward getting off the floor in the second round to win the three world titles with a close twelve round unanimous decision.
