Sergey Kovalev Will Head To Big Bear on April 29, Then Oxnard

Sergey Kovalev is planning to hit Big Bear, California on April 29th to begin preparations for his scheduled rematch against World Boxing Association (WBA), International Boxing Federation (IBF) and World Boxing Organization (WBO) light heavyweight champion Andre Ward. According to Kovalev's promoter, Kathy Duva of Main Events, her fighter will have a new conditioning trainer on board. Kovalev is trained by John David Jackson.

Claressa Shields has had it with Sergey Kovalev’s chauvinistic comments. The two-time Olympic gold medalist responded angrily on Twitter on Monday to a recent BoxingScene.com story in which Kovalev said Andre Ward wouldn’t be able to knock him out in their rematch because “he slaps like a woman with his punches.” Kovalev made his remarks in response to suggestions by James Prince, Ward’s manager, and Virgil Hunter, Ward’s trainer, that Ward would knock out Kovalev in their upcoming rematch.

James Prince, manager of IBF, WBA, WBO light heavyweight world champion Andre "SOG" Ward (31-0, 15 KOs), is confident his fighter will dominate Sergey "Krusher" Kovalev (30-1-1, 26 KOs) in the upcoming rematch. In that round, Kovalev clipped Ward with a hard shot and sent the Olympic gold medal winner down to the canvas.

Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum has a message for Sergey Kovalev (30-1, 26 KOs)... stop complaining about American judges, saying officials from the United States are just fine for Kovalev's rematch with Andre Ward (31-0, 15 KOs). The Ward vs. Kovalev rematch is scheduled for June 17th at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. The first fight took place at the T-Mobile Arena, and Ward on a twelve round unanimous decision with three identical scores of 114-113.
