WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner is fully backing former two-time beltholder Andre Berto (28-1, 22KOs) to defeat WBC interim-welterweight champ Robert Guerrero (30-1-1, 18KOs) on Saturday night at Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, California. HBO will televise the fight. Broner says his prediction is not based on a September confrontation with Guerrero - which took place at the official weigh-in for Andre Ward vs. Chad Dawson. And his prediction is not based on the fact that he and Berto share the same manager, Al Haymon. According to Broner, his prediction is completely based on the skills of both fighters.

His standing as an ‘interim’ champion with the WBA and WBO at 135lbs plus his present status permits him to make the tenuous claim of being a four division ‘world’ champion. The 5ft 9in southpaw is certainly a quality human being. After his wife Casey, a childhood sweetheart, was diagnosed with leukaemia in 2007, Guerrero placed his world championship aspirations on the backburner to tend to her. After a January 2010 transplant, she now appears cancer free.

Andre Berto sat ringside for Robert Guerrero’s welterweight debut this past summer, though there was no ulterior motive behind his being in attendance. The former welterweight titlist was in town to clear his name with the California State Athletic Commission after a positive drug test killed plans for his twice-canceled rematch with Victor Ortiz and resulted in a suspended license. The trip proved worthwhile; Berto was reinstated by the commission and ultimately wound up with a future opponent after Guerrero edged out Selcuk Aydin in a hard-fought battle. Berto returns to the ring for the first time in 14 months, as he will face Guerrero on November 24 at the Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, California.

For someone who hasn’t posted a single fight in 2012, Andre Berto has seen his name in the headlines quite a bit this year. The former welterweight titlist has been forced to battle through injury, and also clear his own name when random drug testing produced a positive result prior to his rescheduled rematch with Victor Ortiz. Along the way, he caused controversy with the manner in which he announced a newfound allegiance with Golden Boy Promotions, who serves as the lone promoter for his November 24 ring return. Berto (28-1, 22KO) squares off against Robert Guerrero in a welterweight battle which headlines on HBO live from Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, California.
