Former champion Chris Algieri may have been knocked down six times in his decision loss to WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao, but he's still confidently picking WBC/WBA champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. to easily defeat the Filipino star.
Not only does he believe Mayweather will win a potential fight, he expects the contest will be a letdown for fans who are expecting fireworks. He says the fight will not be exciting and it will be ''non-competitive" for as song as it lasts.
“Manny is a great fighter but I don’t think he’s going to match up well with Floyd’s particular style. I don’t think it’s going to be a particularly exciting fight and I don’t think it’s going to be a particularly competitive fight,” Algieri told Hit First Boxing.
''I've got Floyd winning that fight. Manny would definitely make it somewhat interesting but I see Floyd taking that fight.''
Even with the recent push to make a Mayweather-Pacquiao fight happen, Algieri doubts the contest will come off.
“Personally, I do not think the fight is going to ever happen,” Algieri said. “They’re not any closer to making it than they ever were, and I think that’s really indicative that the fights really not going to happen.”
