Alexis Rocha lost his last fight and it was a bout he was heavily favored to win. Rocha was stopped on October 21 in the YouTube Theater in Inglewood, California by Giovani Santillan.

The pride of Santa Ana, Alexis “Lex” Rocha (23-2, 15 KOs) will co-headline the cruiserweight clash between WBA Cruiserweight Super World Champion Arsen “Feroz” Goulamirian (27-0, 19 KOs) of Yerevan, Armenia against former World Champion Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez (45-1, 30 KOs). Rocha will participate in a 10-round welterweight fight against Fredrick “General Okunka” Lawson (30-4, 22 KOs). Rocha will return to YouTube Theater after being the main event last January 2023 for the first-ever boxing event in the venue’s history. The fight night is presented by Golden Boy Promotions in association with Y12 Boxing and will take place at YouTube Theater at Hollywood Park in Inglewood and broadcast live on DAZN.

Oscar De La Hoya isn’t nearly as interested in an all-Golden Boy versus Matchroom card as Eddie Hearn. The Golden Boy Promotions founder questioned Saturday night whether his rival’s company has enough depth on its roster to put together that type of show, even if DAZN executives were willing to provide the funding to stream it. Hearn spoke optimistically about a Golden Boy-Matchroom event earlier during a press conference following a main event one of his boxers, John Ryder, lost to one of De La Hoya’s fighters, Jaime Munguia, by ninth-round technical knockout at Footprint Center in Phoenix.

Alexis Rocha didn’t need to fight Giovanni Santillan. He was already ranked the number one contender in the WBO and simply needed to bide his time and wait patiently for a world title shot. That, of course, would’ve resulted in ring rust. With Terence Crawford holding every major trinket at 147 pounds, Rocha wanted to remain active.

Just a few months ago, Alexis Rocha was one of the leading candidates for Terence Crawford. The 26-year-old earned his spot as one of the best welterweights around and was essentially on the verge of a world title shot.

Opportunity knocked. A pair of fighters answered the door in a big way last weekend. Heading into last weekend, Alexis Rocha had risen in enough esteem at welterweight to be ranked in the top five by both TBRB and Ring Magazine. The WBO ranked him number one while the WBC and IBF both had him in the top ten.

LOS ANGELES – A heartbroken Alexis Rocha said he was reduced to tears in the dressing room following his knockout loss to Giovani Santillan at the Kia Forum on Saturday night.

Saturday night could not have been any better for Giovani Santillan. Not only did Santillan defeat Alexis Rocha by knockout, but he became a legit contender in a competitive welterweight division.
