Alexey Papin: record, next fight and profile →
The scheduled high stakes match between Russian fighters Ruslan Fayfer and Alexey Papin has been relocated from Sochi to Kazan, with a new event date of August 22. The final decision was confirmed to TASS by the press service of the Russian Boxing Federation.
After two delays due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, Viktor Postol will finally challenge WBC, WBO super lightweight champion Jose Carlos Ramirez at MGM Grand's Conference Center in Las Vegas, on August 29th.
Ruslan Fayfer was on his way to a previously proposed showdown with lethal but fragile puncher Dmitry Kudryashov, when an upgrade of the fight happened, coincided with a change of opponent. In what seems to be a more thrilling proposal for local fans, IBF #1, WBC #4, WBO #6 and WBA #12 ranked Fayfer will take on rising former kickboxing star Alexey Papin in what will be the WBC eliminator as announced by the Russian Boxing Federation.
In one of the best fights of 2019 (at least in cruiserweight division), IBF #14 Alexey Papin overcame a serious deficit in experience and activity but it was still not enough to overcome Congolese power puncher Ilunga Makabu, who snatched a very thin majority decision at Papin’s home to secure a fight for the WBC cruiserweight title.
Ilunga Makabu beat a hard-hitting Russian in Russia for the second time in barely two months, this time by decision. The South Africa-based cruiserweight contender knocked down Aleksei Papin late in the 12th round and won a majority decision in Chelyabinsk, Russia. Two of the three judges scored their 12-rounder for Makabu on the Sergey Kovalev-Anthony Yarde undercard at Traktor Sports Palace.
WBA #7 Alexey Egorov (9-0, 7 KOs) continued his fast track to a world title shot with a quick demolition of hard-charging Germany-based Ukrainian Roman Golivaschenko (20-4, 18 KOs) in the third round.
There were a number of interesting local cards in Eastern Europe over the last several weeks. Yet they were severely outshone by the ongoing FFIA World Cup in Russia. Here are the most notable results.
The World of Boxing promotional company is best known for staging huge, long-night tournaments, featuring the who’s who of Russian boxing – like Denis Lebedev, Alexander Povetkin or recently retired Grigoriy Drozd. However, there are different shows, produced by the leading Russian boxing group.
Fresh off his breakthrough win, a scary first-round knockout of badly faded Ukrainian Ismayl Sillakh last November, red hot Russian cruiserweight Alexey Papin (9-0, 8 KOs) will stay busy with a tune-up bout, which is set to take place on March 17. Papin faces mostly unknown Kazakh expatriate Vladimir Kelesh (4-0, 2 KOs) over ten rounds in what seems to be a mismatch.
Moscow, Russia - In a sad moment for some and a joyous moment for the others, former kickboxing world champion Alexey Papin (9-0, 8 KOs) has brutally knocked out former prospect turned stepping stone - Ismayl Sillakh (25-5, 19 KOs) - at 2:07 of the first. Papin rocked Sillakh with a right hand and landed several big shots in the corner.
