Adrien Broner: record, next fight and profile →
Leonard Ellerbe expects Adrien Broner to prove plenty of people wrong Saturday night. Ellerbe, CEO for Mayweather Promotions, respects Mikey Garcia and everything the unbeaten three-division champion has accomplished. But he can’t see this motivated Broner, who admits his back is against the wall entering their 12-round, 140-pound fight, losing to Garcia at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
WBA lightweight champion Jorge Linares (42-3, 27 KOs) would love to unify with WBC champion Mikey Garcia (36-0, 30 KOs) - but Linares doubts the fight will come together in the near future. Garcia will return this coming Saturday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. He moves up to the junior welterweight limit for a Showtime televised showdown with four division world champion Adrien Broner (33-2, 24 KOs).
Four-division world champion Adrien Broner has taken a unique approach as he prepares to face undefeated three-division titlist Mikey Garcia this Saturday, July 29 live on SHOWTIME (9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT). One of only 16 four-division champions in boxing history, the outspoken Broner is practicing yoga in his Colorado Springs-based camp as he attempts to minimize the distractions and focus on perhaps the biggest fight of his career.
SHOWTIME Sports will offer three separate boxing presentations on Saturday, July 29, delivering two digital live streams preceding the evening’s SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING televised doubleheader. The digital-only offerings will be available on Facebook Live and YouTube prior to the live SHOWTIME® telecast at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT, as the network continues its unrivaled commitment to boxing.
While Mikey Garcia (36-0, 30 KOs) has stated that he plans to move back to lightweight after his junior welterweight encounter against Adrien Broner, which takes place this weekend at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, it really depends on the opportunities that exist in the 135-pound class. His brother and co-trainer, Robert Garcia, told BoxingScene.com:
It was Marcos Maidana who handed Adrien Broner his first loss back in December of 2013, knocking him down twice in the process and taking away whatever cloak of invincibility he had - and snatching away Broner's WBA welterweight title. In Maidana's corner that night was Robert Garcia, the brother and co-trainer of Mikey Garcia, who faces Broner this Saturday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
NEW YORK – Consistency. That, Mikey Garcia says, is largely what separates him from Adrien Broner. From a talent perspective, Garcia doesn’t think there’s all that much that differentiates them. But Garcia has always behaved like a professional and the Oxnard, California, fighter has produced commensurate results on his way to 36-0 and winning world titles in three weight classes.
By Lyle Fitzsimmons - If boxing is your career field, you could follow far worse blueprints than Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s. Now 40 years old, the Pretty Boy-turned-Money man cut an enviable swath of excellence across five weight classes across parts of three decades while building an out-of-ring conglomerate har...
WBC lightweight champion Mikey Garcia (36-0, 30 KOs) is ready for much bigger things - if he comes away with a victory on Saturday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Garcia will head up to the junior welterweight limit of 140-pounds to take on four division world champion Adrien "The Problem" Broner (33-2, 24 KOs) in a high profile showdown.
Adrien Broner couldn’t believe it when he learned Mikey Garcia opened as a 5-1 favorite over him last month. Those lopsided odds obviously motivated Broner, but the former four-division champion is less concerned about playing the underdog role as their July 29 fight nears. Boxing bettors clearly have been wagering on Broner because Garcia is slightly less than a 3-1 favorite with less than a week to go before their 12-round, 140-pound bout at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
