Adrien Broner: record, next fight and profile →
Adrien Broner’s on-again, off-again relationship with boxing is apparently on again, as the boxer has plans to come out of retirement. The inactive 31-year-old Broner (33-4-1, 24 KOs) has danced around the 135, 140 and 147 divisions since 2013, picking and choosing fights in certain classes as his weight outside of training has ballooned.
That Floyd Mayweather Jr. the promoter and his protege Gervonta Davis have had an up-and-down relationship over the years is no secret. But it may be more down than it is up, according to a mutual friend.
Adrien Broner has repeatedly demanded a $10 million payday in order to bring him out of his claimed retirement. That asking price appears to have been reduced thanks to a single social media reply from Oscar de la Hoya.
Former four division champion Adrien Broner (33-4-1, 24 KOs) is still without any particular comeback plans. Broner has been out of the ring since January of 2019, when he lost a lopsided twelve round unanimous decision to WBA welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
WBC lightweight champion 'in recess' Devin Haney says he would love to renew his rivalry with amateur foe, Ryan Garcia, who is now a hot contender in the paid ranks. Haney is itching to get back into the ring and resume his reign as WBC lightweight champion having been made champion in recess after suffering the shoulder injury in his first defense against Alfredo Santiago in Los Angeles in November that forced him to have surgery.
Adrien Broner believes that the social distancing doldrums of the coronavirus pandemic was designed for him to fail. “This sh-t is starting to get real repetitious, man. That ain’t good,” Broner said on Instagram Live, chatting while driving in his car, and later while in the kitchen. “Once I start getting in this mode, it ain’t good for you, man. I know a lot of people are banking on me to stay in the club, keep partying, and f--k around.
“The Problem” can’t seem to avoid living up to his moniker, and now you can add Teddy Atlas to the list of people who want to right the wrongs of Adrien Broner’s list of lifetime shortcomings. Days after Broner was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence and was held overnight in a Miami-Dade County jail earlier this month, the Hall of Famer trainer Atlas opined on the fighter’s future during his talk show "The Fight with Teddy Atlas.”
Adrien Broner has not scored a win since 2017, but his confidence still remains in championship form. The 30-year-old Broner (33-4-1, 24 KOs), a four-division crown holder who last fought as a welterweight in a one-sided loss to Manny Pacquiao over a year ago, is adamant that he can drop back down to 135 and defeat one of the fastest rising stars in the sport in Devin Haney (24-0, 15 KOs).
Adrien Broner hasn’t made his way to the ring in more than a year but will find himself back in a courtroom in the immediate future. The former four-division titlist has once again landed behind bars, the latest charge coming Friday evening in Miami Beach. In a development first reported by TMZ Sports, Broner was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI) and is being held overnight in a Miami-Dade County jail.
It remains unclear when—or even if—Adrien Broner will return to the ring. What we know now, though, is when his last fight didn’t take place. The former four-division titlist made the headlines for all the wrong reasons after being escorted out of the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and arrested on February 21 on one count of misdemeanor trespassing. The incident took place at the pre-fight weigh-in ahead of the heavyweight title fight rematch between England’s Tyson Fury and Alabama’s Deontay Wilder.
