Adrien Broner hasn’t made his way to the ring in more than a year but will find himself back in a courtroom in the immediate future.
The former four-division titlist has once again landed behind bars, the latest charge coming Friday evening in Miami Beach. In a development first reported by TMZ Sports, Broner was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI) and is being held overnight in a Miami-Dade County jail.
According to the existing arrest warrant—of which BoxingScene.com has obtained a copy—Cincinnati’s Broner was pulled over by Miami-Dade police at 8:45pm local time. It was observed at the time that he was intoxicated, at which point he was taken to a nearby station where he was officially charged.
The bail bond was set at $1,000, although the case remains open as the 30-year old is required to remain behind bars until Saturday morning, at which point bail can be posted for his release.
Broner (33-4-1, 24KOs) has not fought since a lopsided 12-round loss to MannyPacquiao in theirShowtime Pay-Per-View headliner last January inLas Vegas. The setback marked his third straight fight where he failed to produce a win, having fought to a draw with Jessie Vargas in April 2018 which was preceded by a 12-round loss to then-unbeatenMikey Garcia in July 2017.
The last victory for Broner came in February 2017, taking a narrow 10-round decision over Adrian Granados in his Cincinnati. Since then has come struggles in the ring and an inability to keep his name out of headlines for all the wrong reasons beyond the ropes.
This most recent arrest is his second in just three weeks, having been charged with one count of misdemeanor trespassing this past February in Las Vegas. As previously reported by BoxingScene.com, Broner was issued the charge by local police responding to an outstanding warrant stemming from last November, when the boxer was charged with one count of misdemeanor battery "not committed with a deadly weapon, and no substantial bodily harm to the victim results for a misdemeanor."
Broner was released later that evening following his February 21 arrest, which took place prior to the official weigh-in for the heavyweight title fight rematch between Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder.
