Less than a month away from heading across the Atlantic for the biggest fight of his life, Liverpool light heavyweight Tony Bellew remains confident that he can upset the odds and rip the WBC belt away from its current owner, Canadian power puncher Adonis Stevenson. Bellew believes that Stevenson may have one eye on a proposed unification fight with WBO boss Sergei Kovalev, who is also defending his title on the bill in Quebec City on 30 November. As a result, he might be looking past the former British champion, and perhaps even under-estimating him. Bellew will be quite happy if that proves to be the case.

Tony Bellew has dismissed Adonis Stevenson's 'Superman' tag by warning that he will be the Canadian's Kryptonite. Liverpool fighter Bellew, 30, takes on the highly-rated Stevenson for the WBC light-heavyweight title in Quebec City on November 30. It is Bellew's second shot at a world title after losing on points to Nathan Cleverly with the WBO crown at stake two years ago. The Everton fan is confident of making up for that disappointment against WBC champion Stevenson, who is known as Superman for his strong punching power and impressive record.

Adonis Stevenson expects Bernard Hopkins to fight him sometime in 2014. There are plenty of potential complications that could prohibit Hopkins-Stevenson from being made, but the WBC light heavyweight champion thinks Hopkins wants the fight as much as he does. “He’ll fight me,” Stevenson said. “He wants to fight me. I spoke to him and he said after his mandatory [against Karo Murat] that he would fight me. He said he would come to Montreal. The people in Montreal know him. I think it could put 25,000 people in the building. It’s a big, big fight.” Hopkins’ light heavyweight championship rematch against Canadian Jean Pascal did big business at Bell Centre in Montreal. Five months before nearly 18,000 fans attended their rematch, Hopkins and Pascal drew a crowd of over 16,000 to Pepsi Coliseum in Quebec City for their first fight.

Despite rumours to the contrary, it looks likely that Tony Bellew will take on Adonis Stevenson for the WBC light heavyweight title next month. A provisional date of 30 November has been set, and the fight will almost certainly be staged at the Bell Centre in Montreal. Nothing is set in stone at this stage, but negotiations are progressing. There had been some doubts expressed over whether Bellew, the mandatory challenger, would get his opportunity. Sergei Kovalev, the hard-hitting WBO champion, was being mooted by HBO in their interview with Stevenson following his stoppage win over Tavoris Cloud. However, a potential blockbuster unification fight looks to be down the road, so the Liverpool man would seem to be next in line for the Canadian.
