World Boxing Council president Don Jose Sulaiman has blasted boxing judge James Jen-kin for his shutout 120-106 scorecard in the title defense of WBC super bantamweight champion Abner Mares against WBA bantamweight t champion Anselmo “Chemito” Moreno at the Staples Center in Los Angeles last Saturday. Sulaiman said Jen-Kin’s score was “a blasphemy to boxing” and once again blamed the United States Commissions for some of the problems.

Staples Center, Los Angeles, California - WBC super bantamweight champion Abner Mares (25-0-1, 13KOs) won a lopsided twelve round unanimous decision over Anselmo "Chemito" Moreno (33-1-1, 12KOs). The scores were 116-110, 116-110 and 120-106. Moreno, still the WBA's super champion at bantamweight, moving up to take the fight. It was the matador chasing the bull. Mares was hunting down the crafty Moreno, round after round, and trying to land anything possible to the head and the body. He finally caught up with Moreno in the fifth, dropping him near the end after a series of shots to the head and body.

Abner Mares was busier and landed the harder punches all fight. Anselmo "Chemito" Moreno landed a higher pct. of power punches (non-jabs).

Both Abner Mares and Nonito Donaire have beaten top rated fighters in their last fights which would only naturally lead to a showdown between the two best Super Bantamweight champions. While everyone is asking for this fight to be made, it will come down to each fighter’s promoters. Both have been involved in an ongoing feud which has prevented them from working together.

You can count Abner Mares among those who have long grown fed up in the Cold War between top promoters Top Rank and Golden Boy Promotions. The unbeaten super bantamweight added yet another big win to his resume, scoring a unanimous decision over Anselmo Moreno. Most believed the fight to be close, but the three ringside judges thought otherwise, awarding Mares the win by scores of 116-110 (twice) and a ridiculous 120-106.

By Cliff Rold - 26-year old 2004 Mexican Olympian and reigning WBC Super Bantamweight champion Abner Mares (24-0-1, 13 KO) of Montebello, California, won a unanimous decision Saturday night at the Staples Center in Los Angeles over WBA Bantamweight Champion Anselmo Moreno (33-2-1, 12 KO) of in a fight that live up to its pre-fight billing. Hotly contested at the highest world-class levels throughout, Mares dropped Moreno for the first time in his career in round five and worked through being hurt twice in the second half of the fight to score the hard earned victory. Mares, a former IBF Bantamweight titlist as well, makes his first defense of the then-vacant WBC belt he won earlier this year against former Flyweight titlist Eric Morel. Moreno is added to a list of conquered foes that also includes Joseph Agbeko and Vic Darchinyan as Mares continues the work of taking the fights that signal a fighter seeking the toughest paths available.

Abner Mares' pressure vs. Anselmo Moreno's defense. Moreno's last five opponents landed just 17% of their total punches. That ranks Moreno in a tie with Floyd Mayweather as the best defensive fighter among today's elite fighters. Both landed above the weight class average in power punches.

Even in the last couple of years and one weight class below what they currently fighting at, Abner Mares and Nonito Donaire were destined to fight one another. That is according to media and fight fans alike. Nothing has changed as 2012 comes to a close. Fight fans and media alike are still hoping that one day Mares and Donaire will exchange leather against one another. But as all fight fans know and to the chagrin of the media as well, that will not happen anytime soon as Golden Boy Promotions and Top Rank give each other the cold shoulder. Golden Boy promotes Mares, while Top Rank promotes Donaire.
