Yordenis Ugas will get his shot September 6 to win a secondary title and move into position to fight another elite welterweight. FOX and PBC announced Saturday night during its tripleheader that Ugas and Abel Ramos will meet in the main event of a three bout-broadcast the Sunday night of Labor Day weekend at Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. Ugas and Ramos will fight for the vacant WBA world welterweight title in their 12-rounder.

More than seven months after being cheated in the ring, Radzhab Butaev is once again denied just due in his bid to become a welterweight titlist. Measures taken by the World Boxing Association (WBA) to free up its secondary version of the welterweight title appeared to have favored the Russian contender. Included among the list of activities during the 99th annual WBA convention was the sanctioning body electing to strip Alexander Besputin (14-0, 9KOs) of its “Regular” title. The unbeaten Russian scored a narrow win over Butaev in their vacant title fight last November, but tested positive for the banned substance Ligandrol.

Bridgestone Arena in Nashville - Abel Ramos scored a stunning last second TKO victory over Bryant Perrella in a scheduled 10-round welterweight match. Heading into the 10th and final round Ramos was told by his cornermen that he needed a knockout to win. Ramos (26-3-2, 20 KOs) delivered, badly hurting and dropping Perrella twice in the waning seconds of the frame, prompting referee Jack Reiss to wave the welterweight co-main event off with just one second remaining.
