At the Don Haskins Convention Center in El Paso, Texas, junior welterweight Danny Garcia (16-0, 10KOs) won a ten round split decision over British veteran Ashley Theophane (25-4, 7KOs). The scores were 95-94 for Theophane, 95-94 for Garcia, and 96-94 for Garcia.

After Theophane got off to a good in the first three rounds, Garcia came back with the fourth when began to put his power punch combinations together. Garcia was doing some smart counterpunching in the fifth and sixth rounds. In the seventh, Garcia landed a huge counter right to buckle Theophane and sent him running for survival. Theophane did much better in the eight, coming back with good punches to steal the round. The round was close in the ninth, but it switched to Theophane's favor when the ref took a point away from Garcia for a low blow. Garcia came back swinging in the tenth with hard counters to keep Theophane back.
