PPL Center in Allentown, Pennsylvania. - In a battle of former world champions, Guillermo Rigondeaux (20-1, 13 KOs) won a twelve round split decision over Liborio Solis (30-6-1, 15 KOs) to capture the vacant WBA "regular" bantamweight title. (photos by Amanda Westcott)

The scores were 115-112 for Rigondeaux, 115-112 for Solis, and 116-111 for Rigondeaux.

Solis came right out swinging away at Rigondeaux with hard punches, with body shots landing. Rigondeaux was mostly covering up. It didn't take long before Rigondeaux landed three hard left hands. Solis landed several hard shots in return to rattle Rigondeaux.

The pace slowed down in the second, as Rigondeaux began to use his boxing style. Solis was having a lot of trouble landing at this point, with the third round being more of the same. There wasn't much action in the fourth or fifth, as Rigondeaux was being defensive and making Solis miss most of his shots.

Rigondeaux did not do much of anything in the sixth, with Solis doing all of the action and pushing the pace. In the seventh, Rigondeaux rocked Solis with big left hands and scored a knockdown. Rigondeaux controlled the rest of the round.

There wasn't much action as the fight played out, with both Rigondeaux playing defense and Solis unable to land his punches - although Solis was rocked again in the tenth.
