As BoxingScene.com first reported a few days ago, British superstar Amir Khan has decided to accept a lucrative fight with WBO welterweight world champion Terence Crawford (34-0, 25 KOs).

The contest is going to land on April 20, as the main event of an ESPN pay-per-view card. The event could take place at Madison Square Garden in New York City or at several potential venues in Las Vegas.

"Everything looks good," Crawford's promoter, Bob Arum of Top Rank, said to ESPN. "Hopefully, we'll be able to make an announcement next week. It's not done until it's done, but I'm very optimistic."

Khan (33-4, 20 KOs) was being position for a fight with rival Kell Brook, which would have been the more lucrative option - but he decided to accept a $5 million guarantee to face what is certainly a more dangerous challenge against a boxer regarded by many as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world.

Arum feels confident the fight will sell very well in New York or Las Vegas.

"New York or Las Vegas -- those are the two spots we are talking about. It's a big fight and Khan and Crawford have lot of people fly to their fights," Arum said.

"They both have good fan bases, and that's what a place like Las Vegas looks for -- customers to come in and fill the hotel rooms. A place like Madison Square Garden looks to fill the seats and doesn't care about filling hotel rooms. Wherever, I am very optimistic the fight is going to happen."

Khan grabbed two victories in 2018. He blew away Phil Lo Greco in under two minutes of the first round. But he struggled in facing heavy underdog Samuel Vargas. In that particular bout, Khan was dropped and rocked in the later rounds. Despite the scares, Khan boxed his way to a unanimous decision victory.
