Toowoomba's WBC Youth Champion Brayd 'The Great White' Smith faces a stern test of character with Mexican Jarrett 'Juarez' Owen (4 wins-2 draws-2 losses) announced today as his new opponent for the July 4 'Smithy Brings Back the Big Fights 7' promotion. Smith's original opponent Jay Jay Ngotika, the three time Tanzanian champion, has been forced to withdraw due to visa complications.

Brayd's trainer-manager Brendon Smith said it's been a frustrating weekend.

"This one is totally out of our control," Smith said.

"Jay Jay's camp has had five weeks to finalise his visa, but it's been hold up after hold up from the Tanzanian Government and now it's at a point where it's too late."

"I'm very disappointed, we've gone over and above to assist Jay Jay and make this fight happen but we can't make the impossible possible."

In his place Brendon Smith's signed Brisbane based Mexican Jarrett Juarez Owen to fight Brayd and it will still be over 10 rounds for the prestigious WBC Youth Silver title.

"I'll be honest, this isn't the fight we want on five days notice, but in saying that, it is what it is. We've prepped for 14 weeks and I can't deny Brayd the opportunity to fight nor do I want to disappoint the public because Brayd has developed a wonderful following in Toowoomba."

"Juarez will be extremely dangerous, he's tough, he'll come forward, I know he will do everything he can to disrupt Brayd and rough him up. This bout will be a brawl - we can't rest for a second or we will come unstuck."

Owen is trained by Steve Deller from the all-conquering Fortitude Boxing Gym - the home of World Champion contender Jarrod Fletcher and World rated Dennis Hogan.

"He couldn't come from a better camp, Steve Deller is a master tactician and I know they've been eyeing off Brayd for a while - they'll be ready."

Owen has been prepping for a July 12 bout (no opponent had been secured) and when this opportunity came up they couldn't sign the paper quick enough.

"Big mistake." Said Owen's Manager Adam Wilcock, in regards to Smith's willingness to fight his charge.

"Jarrett is ready, we've been training and sparring against some of the best in the Fortitude Boxing Gym and around Australia. He scheduled to fight on July 12th but as always, there's few in Australia that will fight him, now Braydon Smith wants to put his title on the line which is a fantastic opportunity for Juarez"

"That's brave yeah I'll give Smith that, taking this on short notice. Smith is very skilled, we know that, but Jarrett is a man, Braydon is a still boy."

"We like this fight a lot, if Brayd thinks he can dance around and put on a show for his home town he's in for a rude shock - Jarrett will hound him, pressure him, rough him up. You name it, he will do it to get the win."

It's the opportunity of a life time for Jarrett Owen, of Mexican descent he now has a golden opportunity to win the WBC Youth Silver title and propel his career onto the International stage.

"This is the fight I want and that I've been waiting for. I believe at my own weight I'll beat anyone in the country. Come Friday I'm taking that belt from him." Jarrett 'Juarez' Owen said.

Despite the late change Brayd Smith is unfazed.

"Jarrett's camp is one of the best in the country and held in high esteem across the World, I respect them and I respect Jarrett, but respectfully I'm an intelligent man not a boy." Brayd Smith said.

"Yeah it's disappointing the Ngotika fight fell through, but this is professional boxing - you adapt. That's what I'll do. I respect Jarrett Juarez Owen and I welcome his challenge, I'm still confident in my ability and we've had a great camp, I'm ready for ten tough hard rounds and I'm determined to keep my title."

This fight will take place on the undercard of "Smithy Brings the Big Fights 7" at Rumours International in Toowoomba.
