Heavyweight Tony Thompson (39-4, 26KOs) answered a few questions for BoxingScene.com. Coming off his big decision win from this past weekend of Olympic gold medal winner Odlanier Solis, Thompson is looking ahead to the future and wants more lucrative opportunities.

Congratulations on your big win over Solis this past weekend.  How big a victory is this for you?

TT:  Thank you—it’s a very big win for me. Solis is a Cuban Olympic gold medalist with over 200 amateur wins.  He was supposed to be one of the best technical boxers in the world, and I outboxed him—so I feel great about the win.  The win over Solis allowed me to erase the mistake of fighting Pulev too soon after David Price.  The funny thing is, I am in better position than before Pulev—that’s what the latest offers are telling me.

Did you expect to get a decision in Turkey?

TT: I expected to win in Turkey.  I have to thank the WBC for appointing neutral officials. I threw twice as many punches as Solis, but in boxing you never know—I was very happy to get a fair decision.  I won the WBC International Title and should move way up in the WBC ratings off this win.  In the IBF I was #8 and Solis was #5, so that should put me back in the top 2 or 3.  Ahmet staged a nice event and fans in Turkey were great.

What’s next for Tony Thompson?

TT:  Like I’ve been telling everyone who’s been asking, I have just been sitting back and exploring all offers.  I already got some offers out of Europe and here in America.  I got an interesting call yesterday from another major player in boxing.  So I am just taking it all in and enjoying the attention.  My team and I will announce a decision in the next few weeks. We will be taking our time, but have been listening to everyone.

So you are not tied to any promoter?

TT:  The best thing about my situation right now is that my team is small and I am totally flexible and in control.   My wife is my manager, my agent helps with contracts and negotiations, and I got my coaches.  I don’t have obligations to any promoter and I can accept a deal without any headaches from outside individuals.

Is there anyone in particular that you want to fight?

TT: Yes, but what’s the point in calling people out?  I am done calling fighters out.  My phone lines are always open.  I will fight anyone in the top 15—anytime, anywhere.  Calling out other fighters is just a waste of time because nowadays they don’t want to take real fights, anyway.  My fans know that I come to win, not get a paycheck and lay down in the first round.

Anything you want to tell BoxingScene readers?

TT: Thanks for all your support this last bout.  For all of you that have been asking, YES @tiger_thompson is really me on Twitter.  Follow me—even fools are welcomed to follow.
