Less than a year removed from its ‘Knockout Kings’ card in Las Vegas, Golden Boy Promotions is prepared to turn the card’s theme into a time-honored tradition. Included in those plans is the promise to properly reward the fighter who provides the night’s most memorable ending.

Oscar de la Hoya, president of Golden Boy Promotions, confirmed via Twitter the promise to bring back the knockout bonus, which will be at stake for the July 27 Showtime-televised tripleheader in San Antonio.

“Golden Boy Promotions will be doing a bonus for the best knockout of the night, July 27 (at the) AT&T Center,” de la Hoya announced of the forthcoming card, aptly named ‘Knockout Kings 2.’

The tripleheader features a pair of welterweight bouts – former titlist Andre Berto versus Jesus Soto Karass, and unbeaten contenders Keith Thurman and Diego Chavez fighting for an interim title – as well as a local favorite, rising lightweight contender Omar Figueroa versus Japan’s Nihito Arakawa.

The exact amount of the bonus has yet to be confirmed; last September’s prize was $50,000, which went to Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez for his 4th round knockout of Josesito Lopez in their Las Vegas bout atop a show loaded with sidebars. The super welterweight contest topped a televised quadruple header on Showtime, directly competing with Sergio Martinez’ points win over Julio Cesar Chavez on an HBO PPV card which took place barely two miles away.
