Marco Antonio “Veneno” Rubio (57-6-1, 49 KOs) captured the WBC Continental Americas middleweight title with a twelve round unanimous decision over Marcus Upshaw (15-9-2, 7 KOs) before 5,000 screaming fans in the La Macarena Center in Uruapan, Mexico. The scores were 120-107 and 117-110 twice. Rubio pressed the attack and had the fans screaming "Mexico, Mexico" in several of the rounds.

After the match, Rubio, who earlier this week was named the mandatory challenger for the WBC title, said he was ready to face the winner of Sergio Martinez vs. Martin Murray, taking place for the WBC crown on April 27th.

Also on the card, junior welterweight Jose “Piston” Lopez stopped Mahonri Montes in eight rounds and flyweight contender Arely Mucino won a ten round unanimous decision over Sury Tapia.
