Shortly after he had scored an eighth-round technical knockout over Kendall Holt, Lamont Peterson turned his attention toward other fighters in the junior welterweight division.

“Hopefully we can get the guys we want to fight, like Danny Garcia or Lucas Matthysse or maybe a rematch with [Amir] Khan,” Peterson said.

All of those bouts are more possible than ever now that Peterson has signed with Golden Boy Promotions — which also has those three other boxers in its stable. And it seems as if Peterson-Matthysse could be next.

During the post fight press conference after Friday’s bout, Lem Satterfield of RingTV.com mentioned that he had been told by Golden Boy executive Richard Schaefer of a potential doubleheader on May 18 in Washington, D.C., featuring Peterson vs. Matthysse and the rescheduled welterweight title bout between Devon Alexander and Kell Brook.

“I’m OK with that,” Peterson responded. “Like I said, I’m all about fighting the top fighters out there. At this point, Matthysse is one of the top fighters out there. That’s enough rest for me, and enough time to get ready for him.”

Peterson then answered another question, breaking down the potential match-up with the Argentine banger.

“I don’t think he’s going to pose any problems for me,” Peterson said. “A lot of times, you’ve seen my recent fights, I always have to track somebody down. They don’t really give me a chance to box. If I fight Matthysse, it’ll give me a chance to do a little bit of boxing and to bang when I want to.”
