Looks like Seth Mitchell will invoke his rematch clause to face Jonathan Banks in a rematch, Golden Boy Promotions matchmaker Eric Gomez told BoxingScene.com.

“Seth wants the rematch and it will happen in the first quarter of 2013,” said Gomez, who was in attendance for the Golden Boy card at the Business Expo Center in Anaheim.

The rematch is being positioned for an HBO televised date of February 16th, with WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner scheduled to make his first defense in the main event.

Banks stopped Mitchell in the second round of a scheduled 12 round bout at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, NJ on November 17th. The bout preceded Broner’s eighth round knockout victory over then WBC champ Antonio DeMarco.

Banks (29-1-1, 19 KOs) dropped Mitchell three times in the second round before referee Eddie Cotton stopped the bout after the third and final knockdown.

One week before the fight, Banks worked the corner of Wladimir Klitschko’s one-sided 12 round unanimous decision over Mariusz Wach in Hamburg, Germany.

Banks served as Klitschko’s trainer after the untimely passing of famed trainer Emanuel Steward. Banks trains out of the Kronk Gym, where Steward served as his trainer.

Mitchell, who is promoted by Golden Boy and advised by Al Haymon, hails from Brandywine, MD. Prior to the loss to Banks, Mitchell (25-1-1, 19 KOs) had won his last two bouts over modest opposition in Timur Ibragimov and Chazz Witherspoon, respectively.
