WBA "regular" junior middleweight champion Austin Trout (25-0, 14KOs) is not holding his breath for a potential unification with WBC king Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (41-0-1, 30KOs).

Miguel Cotto was being lined up to face Canelo on May 4th, but those plans are now in jeopardy after Trout won a lopsided decision over Cotto on Saturday night in Madison Square Garden.

Despite the loss, Canelo-Cotto is still a possibility for next year, according to Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer.

"I wouldn't be surprised [if Canelo-Cotto] still happened," Trout told BoxingScene.com.

"I think it was too good of a performance [against Cotto] where his promoter may not want to put him in there. I think his promoter wants to keep him as the Golden Goose and putting him in there with Austin Trout would risk all that."

When sizing up a Canelo match, Trout said he expects another impressive victory.

"It's something similar to this [win over Cotto]. He's a little younger. I think its a good fight. I think he gets hit easier than Cotto does," Trout said.
