Mexican legend Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. is mourning the loss of former champion Hector "Macho" Camacho of Puerto Rico. Camacho was shot by an unknown attacker on Tuesday night in Bayamon. Doctors confirmed the boxer was brain dead on Thursday morning, and his life support system is going to be turned off on Friday.

In a very high profile fight in 1992, an 81-0 Chavez won a twelve round unanimous decision over Camacho.

"It's sad with what happened to Camacho. The truth is, he was a great friend - even though we were rivals and there was a great rivalry between Puerto Rico and Mexico. I think he's the best friend I've had out of of all of the fighters I've faced," Chavez said.

"He's one of the best boxers of all time. He revolutionized boxing. He was very charismatic and controversial....talkative, but very good, very fast. As a person he was outgoing, talkative, but unfortunately he got into a lot of trouble because his personality. The only thing I can say is that we are great friends. After the fight there were always signs of affection and appreciation. We hugged and he is a great person. "

"It was one of the biggest fights of my career....broke records on pay-per-view. Although people say I beat him easy, it wasn't. He was a very fast fighter and it was very difficult for me."
