When he first accepted the job of training middleweight Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (46-1-1, 32KOs), trainer Freddie Roach received several warnings about the Mexican boxer's behavior.

On a scale of 1 to 10, Roach classified Chavez's last camp as a "3." He said the Mexican star refused to listen to him, and he refused to listen to his legenday father Julio Cesar Chavez Sr.

Chavez lost a twelve round unanimous decision to Sergio Martinez last Saturday night in Las Vegas. He was dominated for eleven rounds before scoring a knockdown and coming close to stopping Martinez in the twelfth.

To make matters worse, it was broken yesterday that Chavez failed his post-fight drug test. He tested positive for marijuana.

"The six fights prior to that, people warned me about the way he used to be and so forth. I never saw that. He never said no to me. He never missed a day of training. Everything people warned me about came through in this fight. It was very unusual," Roach said.

"I don't know why you would want to mess with success. For some reason he did. He wanted to make a change. He wanted to be the boss. He didn't want to listen to me or his father. His father was very frustrated. His father would tell him 'you have the best trainer in the world and you won't even listen to him.' His father told him 'you trained just enought lose.'"

Roach is willing to continue working with Chavez, but also plans to walk away if the boxer continues to exhibit this type of behavior.
