Earlier today, Golden Boy Promotions officially confirmed BoxingScene.com's report from Monday, that WBC silver welterweight champion Josesito Lopez (30-4, 18KOs) would once again move up in weight to challenge WBC 154-pound king Saul "Canelo" Alvarez on September 15th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Showtime will televise.

Last month, Lopez moved up to the welterweight division and broke the jaw of Victor Ortiz for a ninth round stoppage victory at Staples Center in Los Angeles.

On the same night as Canelo-Lopez, and only two miles down the road, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (46-0-1, 32KOs) will defend his WBC middleweight championship against Sergio Martinez (49-2-2, 28KOs) at the Thomas & Mack Center. HBO pay-per-view will carry the show.

Chavez shook his head at the news of Canelo fighting Lopez. He believes that his level of opposition is solidifying his claim to being "the biggest star in Mexico."

"[Canelo and his team] have been criticizing me for years....my work ethic, everything. I've shown [over] the last two years what I'm capable of doing and they've shown what they are capable of doing in the last two years," Chavez told BoxingScene.com.

"The kind of fighters I'm facing....he has faced no quality fighters in a long time. I'm facing Sergio Martinez, the best middleweight in the world. He's not facing anyone."

Hall-of-Famer Freddie Roach, who trains Chavez, believes Lopez is too small to give Canelo a serious challenge. He doesn't give Lopez any shot to get an upset, noting the boxer's low weight of 144-pounds for the bout with Ortiz.

"[It's] a 140-pounder, against a 154-pounder, it's just [too much]. I like the kid [Lopez], but he has no shot. They had to get something to at least get something to match this fight [with Chavez and Martinez], to go against it, and that was the best they could do.....you've got to be kidding me," Roach told BoxingScene.com.

"He has the opportunity to make a lot of money and in that case I'm happy for him, but he's just too small for this guy. It's a mismatch."
