Things definitely got heated during the kick off press conference for Amir Khan and Danny Garcia who will be fighting on July 14th in Las Vegas, NV at the Mandalay Bay. Garcia’s father and trainer Angel Garcia didn’t bite his tongue as he lashed out at Khan and called him overrated.

The fight seems to have already become personal but Amir Khan takes it all in stride. When he spoke to BoxingScene.com he informed the trash talk doesn’t bother him but it goes to show what kind of class his opponents have.

“[It] only motivated me to be honest with you. Nothing upsets me because I’m one of them guys that trains hard and works hard. I go in there and win fights. But the thing is his father disrespected [me]. Just goes to show what type of class they are. I’m a champion, a great sportsman and I’m a role model in the sport. It just shows what type of guy his dad is” said Khan.

“He’s putting more pressure on his son I think [by] talking so much trash. When his son gets knocked out I’m going to feel for him because it’s cause of his father he’s going to take the beating from me”.

With Khan’s rematch with Lamont Peterson being called off because of Peterson testing positive for synthetic testosterone, Golden Boy had to look for a replacement and they found one in WBC Junior Welterweight champion Danny Garcia. Khan is happy to be taking on an undefeated champion like Garcia but feels he will be a much easier opponent than his rival Peterson.

“Yes, Danny Garcia’s style suits me better. I never take any fight easy. I never say its easy or whatever. But one thing I can say is that I don’t think it’ll be tough as the Peterson fight” expressed Khan.

The war of words have started early between both fighters and their camps but the fight is won in the ring. While Khan may not want to admit it, the trash talking has lit a fire under him. He’s not only promising a victory on July 14th; he’s also promising to give Garcia his first loss by way of knockout.

“I’m the toughest fighter he’s [fought]. He will taste defeat on July 14th. He’s tough but I’m going to let my fist do the talking. He talks a lot but I will shut him up with my fists. He thinks he’s better than he is. And I promise you one thing: I will knock him out”.

Amir will be training at the Wild Card Gym in Hollywood, CA under the tutelage of Freddie Roach as he prepares for his show down with Garcia which is a little over a month away.
