Ricky Burns admits he is somewhat bemused to have become a popular poster boy.

The WBO super-featherweight champion will defend his title against Joseph Laryea at the Braehead Arena on March 12.

As part of the advertising campaign to promote the event, striking posters of the Coatbridge fighter holding his belt have sprung up all over Glasgow in recent days - with some being taken back down again, presumably by Burns fans.

However, the 27-year-old champion, speaking at the Braehead shopping centre, near Glasgow, before he underwent a public workout, claimed he is still struggling to come to terms with his increasing popularity.

"People were sending me messages on my Facebook telling me that they were getting their photographs taken beside the posters and I was told today that people have been stealing them," he said.

"I haven't seen the posters myself but I was told that they will also be going up in Coatbridge in the next few days so I guess I will be seeing them soon.

"But I don't see the big deal.

"I don't feel any different being world champion.

"I knew I was coming here for a workout today but I wasn't expecting all the media to be here as well.

"I am still trying to get used to it all."

Burns' presence at the Braehead shopping centre caught the attention of the public and he looked forward to returning next month where around 5,000 fight fans are expected to see him take on the Ghanaian, who got the better of South Queensferry fighter Paul Appleby on his last visit to Scotland.

Burns paid tribute to his supporters in advance, saying: "I can't explain the feeling you get when you walk out knowing everyone is behind you and they are all going nuts.

"I wish they could all see it through my eyes.

"So I'm really grateful for everyone for supporting me."

Like Appleby, Burns will concede height and reach to the rangy African but the champion remains confident that he will keep the belt in Scotland.

He said: "When he boxed Paul, you could see that Paul just wasn't himself that night but Joseph dictated the whole fight which I can't afford to let happen.

"I don't think he will change much.

"He will use the big long jab with big combinations but I've got a good jab and so he is going to have to deal with mine.

"I've also brought in sparring partners who are similar in style to Joseph, who are taller and have a good long jab.

"So preparations could not have gone better, I am really happy.

"Paul was sparring with me a few weeks ago and he thinks I will have no problem at all."
