Promoter Frank Warren held a press conference in London earlier today to announce the world title eliminator between Kevin Mitchell and Breidis Prescott, which has been pencilled in for the Amir Khan versus Dmitriy Salita undercard at the Metro Radio Arena, Newcastle on December the 5th.  Warren also formally unveiled his latest signing, amateur star Ronnie Heffron.

Mitchell will meet Prescott in a final eliminator for the WBO lightweight title.  Breidis, 26, rose to fame when knocking out Amir Khan in less than a minute last September; however, Prescott’s career has gone off the boil since that dramatic night at the MEN.  Breidis lost his last fight, against Miguel Vazquez, and is struggling to maintain the form that saw him sweep aside Khan, who has gone on to become the WBA light-welterweight title holder.

Breidis has two bouts scheduled within a week of one another on the Boxrec schedules; he is set to take on Jhohnny Antequera on the 19th of November in Colombia before meeting the undefeated Ruslan Provodnikov in Russia the following week.  The likely scenario is that Prescott ditches one, or both, of these fights in order to fight Mitchell in December.

Bolton’s Heffron will make his professional bow at the Metro Arena.  Trainer Anthony Farnell has picked ABA light-welterweight title winner Heffron for the top, telling Boxingscene that Ronnie has the pedigree and tools needed to go all the way.
