Last year, the World Boxing Council was ready to order a fight for the WBC interim-welterweight title between two-division world champion Danny "Swift" Garcia and former champion "Showtime" Shawn Porter.

The winner would have been the mandatory challenger to full WBC champion Keith Thurman, who holds decision wins over both fighters.

According to the WBC, there was very little interest from the side of Garcia to take part in the eliminator.

According to Kenny Porter, father and head trainer of Shawn, they tried to finalize the fight with Garcia as a headline bout for a Barclays Center show and there was no answer from his side.

"We attempted to get that fight together on numerous occasions and there was absolutely no response from the camp of Garcia - they wanted nothing to do with Shawn. The week after we signed to fight Granados, Garcia comes out and says, 'I'll fight Shawn Porter, that would be a great fight. I'll knock him out, he's tailor made for me.' I just thought to myself, 'This dude is full of sh*t' because every phone call that could've possibly been made, was made to take this fight to be the main event here on this card in Brooklyn [in 2017] and he wanted absolutely nothing to do with it," Kenny Porter told BoxingScene.com.

But Garcia denies that he was offered the fight and issued a warning to Porter.

"I haven't been offered the Shawn Porter fight but I think that would be a great fight. He likes to come forward and I'm a great boxer and counter-puncher. I think the fans would love it, but Shawn Porter should be careful what he's wishing for," Garcia said.

Garcia is back on February 17th, for the first time since his decision loss to Thurman last March, and he faces former champion Brandon Rios from Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.
