Despite two unsuccessful attempts recently to make fights with Mikey Garcia (37-0, 30 KOs), if the reigning WBC lightweight champion called Golden Boy Promotions again - they would answer his call.

"Yes, yes, yes, because look I've been able to get fights done by being persistent," said Golden Boy President Eric Gomez, during his in-studio appearance on 'the 3 Knockdown Rule' podcast with Mario Lopez.

Gomez had recently engaged in extensive talks with Garcia about a bout with Miguel Cotto and then Jorge Linares.

"You can't just give up and I'm committed - as Oscar (De La Hoya, the founder of Golden Boy) said - the company is committed in making great fights. So I don't like to close doors because sooner or later you might need someone to help you," continued Gomez.

Gomez wanted to secure Garcia as the opponent for Cotto's career finale on December 2 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

But, Garcia balked at the Cotto offer, not wanting to sign a multi-fight deal with Golden Boy. Cotto will now defend his WBO junior middleweight champion against Sadam Ali, who moves up to 154-pounds to take the opportunity.

Then after being offered a one-fight deal with no future options to unify his lightweight belt against Linares, he decided to go in another direction. Garcia will most likely return in late January on Showtime - with IBF champion Robert Easter being discussed as the opponent. Linares, who holds the WBA title, is expected to return to the ring in the first quarter of 2018.

"So look," said Gomez, not dismissing the possibility of the two meeting later on the next year. "No problem, if (Garcia) still wants to do the fight and Linares is available and there's no other big offer that came about - then we'll look into it.''
