Former five division world champion, 42-year-old Floyd Mayweather (50-0), has no intention of returning to the ring - despite constant rumors of a potential rematch with Manny Pacquiao.

Mayweather retired from the sport back in 2017, after stopping UFC superstar Conor McGregor in a mega-bout that generated over 4 million buys on pay-per-view.

“I’ve got calls to get back into the ring, but my health is my wealth,” Mayweather told Reuters. “Boxing is a very, very brutal sport. In the last few years a lot of fighters have died inside that squared circle. You have got to know when to hang it up. I had a great career."

Mayweather did appear in the ring on New Year's Eve, when he traveled to Japan to take part in an exhibition bout where he demolished Japanese kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa in a round.

The undefeated boxer is still open to the idea of doing exhibitions in the future.

“I’ll still travel and do exhibitions. I make great money doing exhibitions — between $10 and $30 million,” Mayweather said. “I think I make more doing that than most fighters make fighting.”

Mayweather also felt that his bout with McGregor was big boost for mixed martial arts, because prior to their contest no fighter had ever made a nine-figure payday in MMA.

At the moment Mayweather is running his own promotional company, Mayweather Promotions, with an entire stable of boxers like Gervonta Davis and Badou Jack.

He eventually wants to create his own company in MMA.

“We gave the MMA sport a boost,” Mayweather said.

“Eventually I will move on to build my brand in MMA but for right now I’m in boxing, and boxing will always be at the top as long as I’m involved. My career went great. I’m happy with how everything played out.”
