Things were quiet for a few months, but now the war of words has fully resumed between former two division champion Paulie Malignaggi and UFC superstar Conor McGregor.

McGregor, a two division champion in the UFC, made his professional boxing debut last year. The MMA fighter was stopped in ten rounds by five division world champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Malignaggi, who retired from boxing earlier this year, was hired as a sparring partner by McGregor, to help the UFC fighter prepare for the scheduled battle with Mayweather.

Malignaggi quit after members of McGregor's team released images of their second sparring session on social media.

The images painted what Malignaggi claimed was a "dishonest" picture of the sparring session - as one image showed Malignaggi down on the mat from a claimed knockdown and other images showed him taking punishment.

Then UFC President Dana White released hand-picked video clips from the sparring session. One clip showed a debatable knockdown of Malignaggi and the other had McGregor doing damage.

Those events led to a face to face confrontation in August 2017, only a few days prior to McGregor's fight with Mayweather. They were separated by security.

On Saturday, McGregor took to social media to reference the photo where he dropped Malignaggi and wrote the following caption - "Time flies when you are on your ass.”

That's all that was needed to set Malignaggi off.

“Dude has had two kids and an ass kicking since this [sparring session] and he still lives off a fake knockdown that he knows wasn’t real,” Malignaggi said on Twitter.

"[Conor McGregor], your feelings are still hurt? Don't get your feelings hurt you lil bitch its still our lil secret. Don't run for your life when they ring the bell.”

"McGregor, don't let the inner bitch in you come out. We all know you're gonna pull out the Khabib fight at the last minute or spend the whole fight runnin for your life like you did in round five of the [Nate] Diaz rematch. You have No BALLS and you think of me one year on cause the reality of my words burns you.

"One year passed and you saw 5 seconds of video in 36 minutes yet he can't stop talkin about me. Come on you gotta be smart enough at this point than to think he boxes anything but apples or oranges."
